What is Piano Pedagogy?
January 26th, 2010 by admin
Piano Pedagogy is the study of teaching musical skills to a piano student based on the level of the pupil. This is different from teaching music education on a professional level as they do at universities in group classroom settings. Piano pedagogy is taught privately either at the teacher’s studio or house or at the student’s home. This form of instruction is called a piano lesson and the piano teachers are technically called piano pedagogues.
The quality of education these pedagogues give their students vary depending on the teacher’s qualifications. Unlike piano teachers at universities, private instructors are not required to be certified with higher degrees. They may be self taught pianists or may also have a bachelor’s or masteral’s degree in music. Some teachers may have taken courses on how to teach piano.
