    Location of Jones fracture

    January 17th, 2010 by admin

This known fracture which is the Jones fracture has involved a fracture at the base of the fifth metatarsal at what is called as the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction. Usually it extends into the 4-5 intermetatarsal joint area. At 1.5 cm distal to tuberosity at the base of 5th metatarsal is it usually located. It should not be confused with the more common avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styloid, which is also at the base of the fifth metatarsal. It also needs to be distinguished from the chronic fracture that can happen following a stress fracture in the base of the fifth metatarsal. This is an acute injury of a chronic problem.
