QDRO in Tough Times

In the difficult economic times currently being experienced by people worldwide, it is amazing what people will do to put the money they need now in their pockets. In one such case, a number of Continental Airline pilots who were worried about their pension plans stability, got divorced and filed a qdro to enable their ex-spouses to receive pension money as alternate payees. Strangely enough, these pilots kept living with their ex-spouses, and many of them remarried. The plan administrator became wary of the actions being taken and eventually the entire issue got taken to court, where the pilots were decided to be legally safe, and the plan administrator was not responsible for any kind of misdeed either. However, the money never had to be returned.
