We use dry dog food almost exclusively for our little dog. It’s very convenient, of course, just having to dish it out into her bowl, and we don’t have to worry about opening cans or refrigerating left-overs, etc. Well, we probably wouldn’t have to worry about any leftovers that much with our little dog, as she eats everything she gets without leaving leftovers. But in feeding her dry food all the time, we also must remember to always have a good supply of fresh water for her to drink because of consuming the “dry stuff”otherwise it would be a problem on her digestive system, I’m sure.There are things that are written about research regarding the different types of pet foods, and many say that the dry foods are better for pets than the canned or semi-moist ones. This seems to be because of their needing to chew it more, and thus giving their teeth a good workout, rather than just gulping it down as would be the case with the canned or moist foods. And doing all this crunchy chewing of the dry food helps their teeth quite a bit with tartar or plaque not being built up so much. At one of our last appointments for a checkup for our dog that we had, the veterinarian commented on how good our dog’s teeth appeared to him. I believe this was because of her eating dry food almost exclusively. Not giving dogs sweet treats, which would stick to their teeth and gums, is a great help also for healthier-looking teeth.
