When you have been hurt in a relationship, it tends to permanently have an effect on the way that you see other people. That is very much the case for me personally, and it does mean that sometimes I tend to be overly cautious. When I fell in love and decided to get married to a really special lady, I realized I had to do a divorce records search on my fiance in order to make sure that there were no ugly surprises in her past. I found that she had been married when she was very young and had a marriage lasting only about 6 months. After we discussed it, I understood her past and we are fine now.
